Like it or not, we are heading towards Socialism and we have nobody to blame but ourselves. What are we to expect when we allow the government to buy huge stakes in our banks, insurance companies, auto makers, real estate, health care, and countless other industries? At what point do people start to understand that a bailout is not a free lifesaver that the government throws from a ship? The bailout puts the government in control of the entities it helps. All of us will pay for it whether we want it or not. The problem is, the bailout pie keeps getting bigger and more companies are seeking it's protection as the days go by. Nobody seems to know how or why, but every day, the tab grows higher with no end in sight. Democrats have taken Bush's $700 billion bailout bill, which originally even many Democrats feared was too much help from the government, and tacked on an additional $1.5 TRILLION (so far). Estimates fear that the US has been put on the hook for $5 TRILLION.
It's getting completely out of hand and people are just sitting by watching it all happen while liberal left chant the mantra "It's all Bush's fault" because it's easier than taking personal responsibility. According to them, he caused the economy to grow to the point of collapse which is why he bailed them out, and now that he started the bailout process, anything that goes wrong with it can and will be blamed on him too. At this point the Democrats are throwing everything at the bailout including the kitchen sink. They have nothing to lose because they realize that they've got a free ride on this bailout spectacle since they can always point the finger back at Bush. At some point, the actions being taken now by Democrats in congress will have to be answered to and Bush will be long gone by then to take any more responsibilities.
But in fairness to the people who subscribe to the theory that our economic crisis is entirely Bush's fault, it's easier to blame the government than to think that this was caused by our own people's greed and speculation. If they can pass the blame onto the government, then the government would be 'required' to fix all their problems. Throw personal responsibility out the window alltogether. While these same people feel that the government's lack of industry regulation is the sole cause of our problems, they suddenly trust the people they blame under new leadership an illusion of change. To these people, maybe Socialism is the solution since they will always look at the government as the problem and the solution.

The problem is not that it was the fault of the Democrats or the Republicans. Our system is based on survival of the fittest; that is what makes us so strong. The Dems and GOP together tinkered with the system which in part led to its bloated state. The bailout also was a joint effort to prevent the natural course of business decay, which much like dead leaves, is the nutrients for the next generation. The big banks and large industrials should be left to die (no one ever bailed out Woolworth) so the regional banks and small producers can have a chance to grow. This refusal to let go can also be seen in our healthcare system where no public expense is spared to save every person from every malady no matter how old that person may be. The sooner we learn not to be afraid of failure (and death), we will be more free to take chances and grow from our mistakes (and we will be more free to live our few precious years to its fullest extent). However, when a candidate runs on Hope and Change, and is to everyone whatever they project him to be based on their ideals, it is very hard to sell bitter reality.
